I am uploading images that are 940 wide but they are appearing very small on the calendar view. THe detail view is fine. Please look at the 5k Run event.

quantum.esu.edu/125/events/
quantum.esu.edu/125/upcoming-events/5k-run/

I also need to know why our logo appears so much larger on the Upcoming Event calendar as opposed to the Historical Events calendar

There had been a mis-understanding. Kindly remove the "max-width" solution suggested in my previous reply. So, the images are scaled 100% to the parent element and this would solve the smaller image size issue on the calendar view.

It's because our plugin doesn't scale the images in pixels(fixed dimensions), instead it scales in percentages to keep them responsive. Since the first link quantum.esu.edu/125/events/ don't have any sidebar, the image column have got some additional width and it scales the image a little larger than your second link quantum.esu.edu/125/exhibits/ where there is a sidebar.

The problem is if I remove the max-width, the vertical images get distorted on mobile. Can you offer a different solution?

Do you have a max size for vertical images?

Try using,
.aec img {
width: auto;
max-width: 100%;
}
